History

1945 "The Book Nook":
Tracyton's first lending library run by Kitsap County Public Library in the basement of Tracyton Church.

1955 The library moves to the Junior Church Building of the Tracyton United Methodist Church.
1965 The Tracyton Fire Hall becomes available and the library moves again.

1987 The Kitsap Regional Library System decides to close the Tracyton branch.
Library supporters rally and are able to keep the library open as a nonprofit independent library.
2017 The library receives 501c3 tax-exempt status and can now apply for grants.

2024 The library is run by 10 volunteers, some of whom have been active since 1987.
The group of volunteers has been shrinking, and the future of the library is once again in peril.
Please consider becoming a volunteer to keep the library going.

Membership

The library membership consists of a core volunteer group referred to as the TCL (Tracyton Community Library) Foundation which is governed by a Board of Directors. Prospective volunteers will be screened by the volunteer coordinator and appointed by the foundation membership.

Volunteers will meet a minimum number of volunteer hours as mutually agreed upon by the volunteer and the volunteer coordinator. These hours may be ad hoc and not regularly assigned. Volunteer duties vary and are based on a member's skills, interests and availability.
Board of Directors

All officers are members of the foundation and have to meet minimum volunteer hours.

Board meetings are held at the library on the second Tuesday of every month at 1 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
